Death of George Floyd protests; Biggest day of demonstrations in cities across the US

Death of George Floyd

Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched in Washington and other US cities on Saturday to demand an end to racism and brutality by US law enforcement as protests over the killing of a black man by police entered a 12th day.

A Lincoln Memorial rally and march to the White House marked the largest outpouring yet of protests'. Demonstrators also rallied  in numerous urban centres - among them New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and Miami - as well as in small, rural communities across the country'.

People in Asia, Australia and Europe braved gloomy weather, infection risk and protest bans to voice their support."

The protest coincided with a second memorial service where around 15,000 people turned up in the small town of Raeford, North Carolina, to pay their respects at the public viewing of Mr Floyd's coffin.'
