Chelsea boss Lampard made a mistake letting 'superstar' Ross Barkley join Aston Villa, Paul Merson claims

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard made a huge mistake in allowing his midfielder Ross Barkley to join Aston Villa on loan this Summer, according to Paul Merson. On Sept 30, Blue confirmed that Ross Barkley had joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan.

Having fallen behind Mount and Kovacic on the depth chart, the 26-years-old was given a chance to depart from the club on loan as he seek for more minutes on the pitch.

Paul Merson, to have believes that Frank Lampard is playing a "risky game" by allowing Ross Barkley leave, believing the England international Man can eventually become a "superstar" at Aston Villa.

Lampard has made a huge mistake letting Ross Barkley out on loan because he will become their key player at Aston Villa alongside with Greenish, Aston Villa Squad may likely be similar to Everton once Barkley adapt to their pattern of playing.

ex-Villa forward Paul Merson Said; "What a signing that is. I cannot still believe it, if I am honest. How Ross Barkley doesn’t get in the Blue Squad beats me. He's a great talent.

To let him leave like this, most especially to another Premier League squad, is a risky game by Lampard. "If Ross Barkley hits the ground running and starts ripping it up for Aston Villa then serious interrogation will be asked why Frank let him leave.

Blue have already gone out of Carabao cup after a penalty shots out between Spurs which cost them loosing the raise for the cup and they have looked hit and miss so far in the league despite spending a lot of money.

They're still not defensive problem despite signing another Central-defender and lampard won’t need any extra pressure on him from Barkley tearing things up at Aston Villa.

Manager added "Dean Smith" was elated that his team, which manage to escaped relegation last Season, was able to secure a player of Ross Barkley's potential.

Capturing a player of Barkley’s quality is a real coup for our team and I'm sure he'll thrive here and improve our squad," Dean Smith said.
