Unbelievable' Fred now integral for Man Utd after transfer uncertainty

Just 8 weeks ago, the writing was on the wall for Fred’s Man United career. The transfer window was still on, van de Beek had just arrived at old Trafford and the Brazilian was made as a substitute in the opening 3 league matchs of the season.

There were uncertainty over how he was going to fit into Man United manager "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pattern and the midfielder was forces to respond to claims he might leave the old Trafford before the window Close. "I want to stay here and that is my desire. I don’t want to leave the Club," Fred told 442  in September.

Despite Donny Van de Beek’s arrival to the Club, Fred's position in the squad was never genuinely under threat and Ole never think selling him.

Since those doubts first emerged, Fred has fought his way back into the starting XI and has again become an integral part of the Squad.

Ole called for his Squad to show ‘passion and pushed up’ ahead of the game against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday and for all the criticism that has been thrown at the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, his commitment has never wavered.

Like McTominay, who played along with him on Saturday, the work rate is Outstanding. I am sure Fred covered every single errors on that pitch.

It is unbelievable how that player just recovers for the next one," Ole Solskjaer said after the 5-0 victory against RB Leipzig in the Champions League 2 weeks ago.

However, that  was one of three big matches the Brazil international has impressed in over the past few weeks, the performances which have been built on Fred’s own determination and desire to improve.

It had been a difficult couple of years fluctuating between periphery squad player and starter. And while he was struggling to get into the team at the start of this 2020/2021 season.

He was working hard away from the club’s Carrington training ground with his own trainer, who he meets with on a daily basis in an attempt to improve his fitness.

He has been working on his quality of movement, enabling the Brazilian Man to produce high energy levels until the last minute as seen during the 3-1 victory against Everton.

Despite it being his 3 start in Ten days, he maintained a consistency until the final whistle that was key to the team’s Win.

His pass completion rate of 91% was the highest of all the starters and he has developed a mature relationship and understanding along with Scott McTominay, which suits them both and aids the squad. McTominay and Fred have done magnificent together," Ole said at full-time.

They were a great partnership. Of course, they did not start during the week. Scott McTominay played 45 minutes in Turkey but you can see they've fresh legs.

With Fernandes's goals, Scott McTominay and Fred with that energy and in that engine room are always the main player for us so our creative players can go on, create chances, show their magic and get the 3 point for us.

They are so disciplined and I'm very pleased with the two of them." While Fred struggled previously when deployed as a lone defensive midfielder, Fred has stepped up the defensive side of his game.

In a system with another defensive midfielder along with him, Fred has the freedom he needs to press and drive forward.

His average number of tackles, recoveries and interceptions have all increased and while that brought him praise against Leipzig it was his forward play that was notable against Everton.

He found pockets of space in between the lines to facilitate Manchester United attacking moves. Fred had the joint-most passes in the opposition half (39) with an 87% percent accuracy rate. Of course, fred has room for improvement and become a great player like Messi or Rolando although they're not playing the same position on the pitch.

His performance against Arsenal in the defeat last weekend was dreadful and he was substituted shortly after the hour mark, losing possession 11 times and managing just 84% percent passing accuracy.

That day he was supposed to be the deepest player in the game and he lost the ball too easily in the centre of the pitch during the matched.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny won the battle in midfield and it was further proof that fred's performs best when he has somebody along with him which the Man United manager just discovered that in him of recent.

Having the right attacking and defensive player to  balance the squad in midfield and forward is key to Man United getting results.

That is something he'll have to improve on and he also has to prove to his manager and the team that he is the right option to support the back four.

His tenacity, work rate and fight have all endeared him to supporters as well as Ole With Pogba struggling for form, Fred should have no problem in keeping his position in the starting XI for the time being.

The challenge now is for him to keep it for a prolonged period of time. He needs consistency and to improve in his defensive duty.
