Barca head Coach "Koeman" hopes Messi will be convinced to stay at Camp Nou by 'improving' young players

Barca head manager Ronald Koeman is hoping that his team "improving" young players will convince Lionel Messi to stay at the Club more than this season

The Blaugrana were crashed out from the Champions League at the last-16 stage, drawing 1-1 against PSG on Wednesday to seal a 5-2 aggregate defeated.

Lionel  Messi, whose contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this season,

may have made his last European appearance for Barcelona as  the only professional club he is ever known.

Ronald Koeman said after the game at a press conference:

"Messi seen for a while that the squad is improving with some changes we have made.

"There're many young players with talented and a big future coming in, so it is not a question of having doubts about this team."

However, Lionel Messi remains the Club's focal point, Barca have seen an exciting crop of young players emerge over the few years to give the Barcelona hope for the future.

Ronald Araujo, Sergino Dest, Riqui Puig, Pedri, Francisco Trincao, Oscar Mingueza, Ilaix Moriba and Ansu Fati have all made their name with the club, with each of those players 22-year-old or younger.

Lionel Messi has made no secret of his displeasure with the club over the few years, memorably demanding to leave the Barcelona last transfer window before retracting his request.

What does the newly elected president mean to Messi and the Club

Joan Laporta, who is Barcelona's president from 2003 to 2010, was re-elected as the new barca president on Sunday after Josep Bartomeu had previously been forced to resigned.

The Argentina international star's relationship with josep Bartomeu had fallen apart, and Joan Laporta has made it clear that his first superiority as president is to keep the Star Man around.

Barcelona have shown improvement on the pitch of late and the Six-time Ballin d'Or was seen voting in the barca's presidential elections, which was viewed as a sign of his renewed engagement at the Club.

With new leadership and a talented younger generation emerging, there has been renewed optimism that Lionel Messi could sign a new Contract with the club.
